2024 Pennsylvania ASCD Scholarship Award Recipients

We are pleased to announce the 2024 Pennsylvania ASCD Scholarship Award Recipients.

Each year, Pennsylvania ASCD offers two scholarship awards. Pennsylvania ASCD congratulates our 2024 scholarship award recipients:
Grace Devlin and Addison Heasley

Grace Devlin

We are proud to announce that the 2024 Mary Ravita Memorial Scholarhip has been awarded to Grace Devlin, a distinguished student at Widener University. Grace is on the President’s List and is completing her final semester, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English secondary education. She is also an active participant in the university’s Honors Program in General Education and a proud member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Additionally, Grace serves as a student mentor at the Widener University Writing Center, offering guidance and support to her peers.

In December, Grace will graduate and earn her certification in English for grades 7-12. She is passionate about advocating for students' mental health and is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment where students can grow both academically and emotionally. Her goal is to build students’ confidence and resilience, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.

Outside her academic responsibilities, Grace works as a teacher at an early learning center, balancing full-time work during school breaks and part-time during semesters. She finds joy in spending time with her family, especially her niece Theo and nephew Atticus, and values teaching them the balance between hard work and fun. In her leisure time, Grace enjoys exploring the outdoors, reading, cooking, and line dancing.

Grace’s journey to becoming a teacher has been both challenging and rewarding. Her dedication to helping students overcome obstacles and reach their potential is what drives her continued passion for education.

We congratulate Grace Devlin on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing the impact she will make in the field of education.

Addison Heasley

We are pleased to announce that Addison Heasley has been named a 2024 PASCD scholarship recipient. Addison is a dedicated junior at Commonwealth University’s Lock Haven campus, majoring in Secondary Education with a focus on social studies. Throughout her academic journey, including her freshman year at Penn State University, she has consistently achieved President’s List honors.

Addison is excited to continue deepening her knowledge of history and education this year, while also gaining valuable hands-on experience through classroom observation and in-person teaching opportunities. She serves as a student ambassador, building connections between Lock Haven University and Williamsport Area High School to help bridge the gap between high school and college education. Upon graduating in May 2026, Addison plans to become certified to teach social studies for grades 7-12, with a focus on American history and political science. Having grown up in a low-income district herself, she is committed to serving similar communities and believes that every student, regardless of their economic background, deserves a passionate and engaged teacher.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Addison leads as the president of Lock Haven University’s theater club, University Players, where she is working to bring live musicals and vocal showcases back to the campus, which have been absent since the 2020 pandemic. She is also an active member of the campus’s Dance Consort and looks forward to her second performance this semester. In addition to her campus involvement, Addison balances two jobs at Target and Old Navy, while also preparing to become a substitute teacher as she advances through her education program.

We congratulate Addison Heasley on this prestigious achievement and look forward to seeing her make a meaningful impact in education and beyond.
