Rethinking What Works: Leading Curriculum, Instruction, and Supervision in a Changing Educational Landscape

Educational leaders are navigating a landscape shaped by evolving research, emerging technologies, changing expectations, and shifting guidance. How do we determine what should endure, what needs to evolve, and how to lead that change effectively?

This year’s Community of Practice will bring together leaders in curriculum, instruction, and supervision to examine current and emerging practices through the lens of evidence and impact. Together, we will explore what research tells us about how students learn, what that means for curriculum and instructional practice, and how supervision, feedback, and professional learning can support effective teaching.

Throughout the year, we will challenge assumptions, learn from one another, and consider a central question: How do we build on what works while making informed decisions about what needs to change?

What If Professional Learning Felt More Like a Conversation?

Some of the best professional learning happens when educators learn from one another. A Community of Practice (CoP) creates that space, bringing together people who share similar roles and challenges to exchange ideas, ask questions, share resources, and work through problems together.

That is the idea behind the PA EDGE Educational Leaders Community of Practice. This year's theme, Rethinking What Works: Leading Curriculum, Instruction, and Supervision in a Changing Educational Landscape, brings together educators across these interconnected areas to consider a common problem of practice: How do we determine what to preserve, what to rethink, and what to change to improve teaching and learning?

Join us on October 14 for our first session, focused on curriculum and the question: How do we ensure that curriculum decisions reflect the best available evidence about how students learn?

Together, we'll examine commonly held beliefs about teaching and learning alongside research from learning and cognitive science. Through an interactive 60-minute session, we'll consider what the evidence tells us about effective instruction and what that means for the decisions we make as educational leaders.

Whether you are evaluating instructional materials, designing programs, supervising instruction, or supporting teaching practices, come ready to connect with colleagues, challenge assumptions, and learn from one another.
