Online Act 48 Professional Learning
Pennsylvania ASCD has is now offering online Act 48 courses in order to provide high quality online professional development opportunities to Pennsylvania's educators. Our online professional development course catalog will continue to grow as we add new courses throughout the upcoming months.
Each online course has been created using research-based, best practices for the adult learner. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a letter stating that you have successfully completed the course and Pennsylvania ASCD will upload your Act 48 hours to the Pennsylvania Department of Education on your behalf.

Blogging has quickly become one of the most popular ways of reflecting on learning, communicating and sharing information. During this course you will learn why educational blogging is important and how to set up your blog site. After setting up your blog, you will learn tips to find your voice and manage your professional digital footprint.

Mentor teachers fulfill many important roles for new teachers ~ teacher, friend, guide, coach, and role model. Research shows that the number one impact increasing teacher knowledge and skills is effective professional development. Effective one-on-one mentoring provides the most personalized professional growth opportunity available for a new teacher. This course will provide mentor teachers with research-based strategies to effectively mentor new teachers. Additionally, participants will become familiar with: mentoring best practices, comparing and contrasting mentoring models, and applying information gleaned from the course to real-world scenarios.
Using Instructional Technology and Media to Improve Student Achievement
This course will offer a systematic, yet very engaging, approach for using technology and media to improve student achievement. This approach is based on the ASSURE model, which helps teachers plan effective, integrated lessons following a six-step process. This course will explore both traditional technologies and innovative, cutting-edge approaches to selecting, using, and evaluating instructional technology and media in order to improve student achievement.
